ABOUT Stacey Lee
Stacey Lee is a New Zealand born, US based director, writer and creative director.
Her career began as an advertising copywriter working on global campaigns for brands like adidas, Absolut, Beats by Dre, Levi’s, Intel, Smirnoff, Toyota and MTV.
During her advertising career her work was recognized at all the major advertising festivals including Cannes, Clio, D&AD and Art Directors Club and she was ranked 9th in the world at the Young Guns International Advertising Awards.
It was during her time working on adidas where her passion for documentary filmmaking was born. The athletes, their stories and the inherent struggles for success were super inspiring to her, and soon she was directing and producing projects on the side. Her first feature, One Fire Ignites Another premiered at the New York Independent Film Festival in 2011, winning Best Music Documentary.
In 2013, a decade after she began in advertising, she turned her attention to directing and producing full-time, creating advertising and branded content campaigns for VICE, Sid Lee, Mother, SS+K and Huge. Most recently her branded content music video for Smirnoff earned her a Young Directors Award nomination at the Cannes International Advertising Awards in 2016.
She continues to make independent films and last year premiered her self-produced and co-directed documentary, Live Fast, Draw Yung at the Tribeca Film Festival. It went on to play festivals around the world winning Best Short Documentary awards at Tacoma and Atlanta Film Festivals.
